Shot and slightly injured on Saturday, July 13, in Pennsylvania, Donald Trump is making headlines around the world, his fist raised and his face covered in blood. Since his assassination attempt, the billionaire has been calling on America to “unity”a rare word from the former president, as the Republican convention opens Monday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Last March, during a rally in Ohio, Donald Trump threatened a “possible bloodbath” if he were to be defeated in the presidential election on November 5. Now, the former Republican president is calling for unity. This word is used regularly, and again on Sunday, by his opponent Joe Biden, but it is much rarer in the mouth of Donald Trump. “It is more important, at a time like this, that we remain united”he wrote on his social network, Truth Social.

Joe Biden has thus become since Saturday the target of criticism from some Republicans, who accuse him of having incendiary rhetoric. Even before knowing the first results of the investigation, a high-ranking member of Donald Trump’s campaign team, Chris LaCivita, attributed the responsibility for this attack to the Democratic camp, denouncing “For years, left-wing activists, Democratic donors, and even Joe Biden have been making disgusting remarks about Donald Trump.”.

One of his three running mates, Senator JD Vance, denounces “Joe Biden’s campaign themes of portraying Donald Trump as a fascist, rhetoric that led directly to the attempted assassination of Trump“, he accuses. Republican elected Steve Scalise, himself the victim of a shooting in 2017 where he almost lost his life, accused the Democrats of fueling “inflammatory rhetoric.”

President Joe Biden, who faces Donald Trump in November’s election, returned to the White House immediately. “There is no place for this kind of violence in America”said the American president, who made a solemn speech, calling “America to lower the temperature.” However, for years, the Democratic camp has accused Donald Trump of having provoked an unbreathable political climate. And Joe Biden has warned several times against the risk of chaos.

A complete reversal of discourse less than four months before the presidential election and an excellent communication move on the part of the Republicans, before starting their big convention on Monday.
