A small hiccup in the preparation for the Games. The reigning Olympic champion, the French men’s handball team lost quite clearly (30-35) to Germany on Saturday, July 13. To begin their preparation tour, the Blues traveled to Dortmund to visit the semi-finalists of the last Euro. A first missed outing since the announcement of the list of Tricolores selected for the Games.
Les Bleus showed some weaknesses in their game. With Vincent Gérard and the Karabatic brothers lined up from the start, the reigning champions failed to show their collective strength. While they are in full physical preparation for the Olympic event, Hugo Descat’s teammates were behind from start to finish of the match, in particular due to French attacks too often stopped by David Späth, a very inspired German goalkeeper. On the French side, only Elohim Prandi stood out, with five goals to his name. Les Bleus had not lost since January 2023 and a defeat in the world championship final against Denmark (29-34).
The French team will be attacking their Olympic tournament strongly. The Blues led by Guillaume Gille will have to face Denmark for their first match of the Olympic Games, on July 27 at 9 p.m. Norway, Egypt, Argentina and Hungary will then be on the program for the Blues in Group B. They will have to raise their level to enter their competition in the best possible way.
