Man shot after altercation in Montreal

A man was shot and injured following a conflict that escalated Saturday morning in the Lachine borough of Montreal.

The Montreal Police Department (SPVM) received a call around 5:30 a.m. regarding gunshots and an injured person on the ground on Camille Street, near Richmond Street. When they arrived on the scene, the police did not locate any suspects or injured persons.

It turned out that the victim, a 23-year-old man, went to the hospital on his own around 5:45 a.m. to seek treatment for a gunshot wound that was not believed to be life-threatening.

“According to initial information, a conflict escalated between the victim and one or more suspects. And that’s when the victim was shot. Subsequently, the suspect(s) fled before the police arrived,” said Caroline Chèvrefils, spokesperson for the SPVM.

A perimeter has been set up to allow investigators and forensic technicians to analyze the scene. The canine unit has also been called in to look for other clues. Investigators will check whether surveillance cameras in the area could have captured the altercation.
