Their duel is looming: Gabriel Attal, Prime Minister, and Gérald Darmanin, Minister of the Interior, could face off in the coming months to succeed Emmanuel Macron at the head of Renaissance.

Gabriel Attal versus Gérald Darmanin is undoubtedly the duel that will animate the outgoing majority in the coming months, even years to come. Because both already want to write the post-Macron era. The current Prime Minister and the Minister of the Interior were at the Elysée meeting held on Friday, July 12 at midday. They probably felt targeted by the remarks of Emmanuel Macron, who castigated, barely back from Washington, the“disastrous image” given by his troops, and the “premature ambitions” expressed by some since the result of the legislative elections.

The two men seem to be trying to force their destiny with a weakened president. Gabriel Attal should be elected head of the Renaissance deputies in the National Assembly, a strategic position for the one who is preparing to leave the head of the government, and who could thus impose himself as leader of the outgoing majority. For his part, Gérald Darmanin is not ready to be left behind. In a message sent to all Renaissance deputies, he warns, pointing out “The problems” which constitute in his eyes the “political line and functioning of the party”.
