Val-des-Sources hospital emergency room closed at night for three days

Due to a lack of staff, the emergency room at the Val-des-Sources hospital, located in Estrie, will be closed in the evening and at night for three days, from July 20 to July 23.

The CIUSSS de l’Estrie–CHUS announced this in a press release on Friday. It states that this closure is temporary and is due to a lack of doctors to fill summer hours. It adds that other night closures are possible before the end of the summer.

More specifically, the emergency room at the Val-des-Sources hospital will be open between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., from July 20 to July 23, 2024. “Despite all the steps taken and all the efforts deployed, the evening and night shifts for doctors have not been filled,” explains the CIUSSS de l’Estrie–CHUS.

After 6 p.m. and until 9 a.m. the next day, the population must go to other emergency rooms. The Fleurimont Hospital in Sherbrooke is located about fifty kilometers from the Val-des-Sources hospital and the Memphrémagog Hospital Center in Magog is 75 km away.

The CIUSSS de l’Estrie–CHUS indicated that measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of the population. People can go to the emergency room only for cases that require immediate attention, such as breathing problems, severe abdominal or chest pain, major trauma or heavy blood loss.

The emergency department at Val-des-Sources hospital will continue its normal activities when the summer holidays end.
