As the NATO summit closed in Washington on Thursday, July 11, the organization announced the dispatch of American fighter jets to Ukraine. Very long-range missiles will also be deployed in Germany.
This is one of the very strong decisions taken at the NATO summit. Starting this summer, the first F-16s, these American-made combat aircraft, will be delivered to Kiev’s forces. In total, around a hundred aircraft are expected before 2028. At the NATO summit, the 32 members are raising their voices against Moscow by renewing their support for Ukraine, which is set to join the alliance. The country is to receive 40 billion euros in military aid and anti-aircraft defense systems. Another important and symbolic decision is the deployment in Germany, starting in 2026, of very long-range missiles, as well as Tomahawks and hypersonic missiles still under development.
The Atlantic Organization also warns China. It accuses it of helping the Russians. The country is said to be selling dual-use equipment, both civil and military, sensitive material that is used in the production of high-tech weapons. In Beijing (China), these Western statements have greatly displeased. “NATO’s rhetoric about China’s responsibility in Ukraine is unjustified and malicious”said Lin Jian, spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Joe Biden remains firm, he reiterated that he will remain present alongside Ukraine through every ordeal the country goes through.
