A letter to the French that does not pass. The CGT alone calls for mobilization on July 18, the day of the first session in the National Assembly of the deputies newly elected during the legislative elections. The union wants the French to gather in the prefectures in France and near the National Assembly in Paris to “demand a government from the New Popular Front”. A meeting with the other unions took place on Thursday July 11 in Paris to try to convince them, but without success.

The request to the Paris prefecture for the gathering on the small square next to the National Assembly has already been filed. The CGT is on the offensive, but wants the mobilization to be “peaceful”says Thierry Nier, general secretary of the railway workers’ branch. “Without excess or violence. This means, massively, re-expressing the need to see the choice of the ballot boxes come to fruition, with a government notably from the New Popular Front.”continues the Secretary General.

This mode of action is not appreciated by all unions, but Thierry Nier persists: it is “adapted” to the situation. “The prefectures are the representation of the State in the territories: we wouldn’t go to a supermarket! So, we are calling on those who represent the State. At the National Assembly, on the day of implementation, we will call on them to speed things up.”

“We do not have the principle of putting pressure on parties to find common ground: each to their own job.”

These gatherings do not suit UNSA Ferroviaire. “It seems to us that discussions are currently underwayunderlines Fabrice Charrière, general secretary of the union. We will have to wait and see what will come of it.Other organisations, such as Sud Rail and the CFDT, France’s largest union, made it known after their inter-federal meeting that they were not calling for these gatherings either.
