Greater Montreal | Areas to avoid on the roads this weekend

Overnight closures are expected this weekend in Greater Montreal, particularly on highways 440 and Bonaventure and in the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel. Many other roads will also be blocked throughout the weekend.

This was indicated on Thursday by Mobilité Montréal, the committee responsible for coordinating major obstacles in the metropolitan region.

First, the La Fontaine tunnel will be completely closed in the southbound direction, during the nights of Friday and Saturday, between exit 5 and the entrance on rue de l’île Charron. To the north, traffic will be impossible during the same period between exit 90 and the entrance from rue Notre-Dame Est.

The obstruction will also force the closure of Souligny Avenue in an easterly direction, between Dickson and Honoré-Beaugrand streets, during these same two nights.

On the Bonaventure Expressway, motorists will not be able to travel eastbound between Exit 2 and the Samuel De Champlain Bridge during the night from Saturday to Sunday. The highway ramp leading to the Samuel De Champlain Bridge, located at Exit 5, will then be closed for two months.

Further north, in Laval, Highway 440 West will be closed during the nights of Friday and Saturday, between exit 22 and the entrance to Highway 15.

To the south, in Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, the ramp leading from the service road of Highway 30-east to Route 116-east will be blocked throughout the weekend. All this could generate a lot of congestion in the interchange, especially since Route 116 will also be closed eastbound between Exit 9-O and Boulevard Seigneurial for three consecutive nights.

In Beauharnois, two of the three lanes of Highway 30 West will be partially closed on Saturday and Sunday, including the Madeleine-Parent Bridge, which normally has six lanes.

On the island of Montreal, the Jacques-Cartier Bridge will be completely closed in both directions on Thursday and Sunday evening for the International des Feux Loto-Québec. The Viger and Ville-Marie tunnels will also suffer the same fate between Panet Street and exit 4, which, taking into account the construction already underway on Robert-Bourassa Boulevard, could complicate entry into the city.

In southwest Montreal, Bridge Street will be closed all day Saturday between Mill and Wellington streets. Long-term obstructions also remain in place on the De Lorimier, Marcel-Laurin and Rose-de-Lima axes.

In the Réseau express métropolitain (REM), service will be unavailable this Saturday, between 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., due to a systems update. Buses will provide the link between Brossard and Central Station.
