“The Favorite Village of the French 2024” is Collioure, a town in the Pyrénées-Orientales, reports France Bleu. It was chosen on Thursday, July 11 by viewers and Internet users in the France 3 program presented by Stéphane Bern. This is the third time that a village in Occitanie has been elected after Saint-Cirq-Lapopie (2012) and Cordes-sur-Ciel (2014).

Collioure is a Catalan port with 2,517 inhabitants, located 28 km from Perpignan and 26 km from the Spanish border. This year it represented the Occitanie region. A landscape made “of coves, cliffs, small beaches with crystal clear waters”, describes France Bleu, a “paradise for bathers and hikers”but also a place of wine, with centuries-old vines. It is also considered a “cradle of Fauvism”, immortalized by the painter Henri Matisse, who made Collioure “his favorite city from the summer of 1905.”

In 2023, it was the village of Esquelbecq, in the North, which won the title.
