Sinner, Djokovic, Auger-Aliassime, Shapovalov: Tennis Canada reveals the players who will participate in the National Bank Montreal Open

The no World No. 1 Jannik Sinner will return to the National Bank Open this summer in Montreal to try to defend his title.

Sinner headlines the players named by Tennis Canada on Thursday morning.

The Italian won his first Masters 1000 in Toronto last summer, after beating Australian Alex de Minaur 6-4, 6-1 in the final.

Since then, Sinner has led Italy to the Davis Cup, won his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open and climbed to the top of the world rankings.

Serbian Novak Djokovic, holder of 24 career major titles and no 2 in the world, should also participate in the tournament which will take place at the IGA stadium in Montreal.

The 37-year-old Serbian has triumphed four times in Canada and will be joined for the occasion by former champions Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev and Pablo Carreno Busta.

Other headliners expected to be in the metropolis include Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz (no 3), American Ben Shelton and Danish Holger Rune (no 15), as well as former Polish finalists Hubert Hurkacz (no 7), Australian Alex de Minaur (no 9) and Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (no 11).

In addition, Quebecer Félix Auger-Aliassime (no 17) will play his first-round match in the evening on August 7. His compatriot Denis Shapovalov (no 121), from Richmond Hill, Ontario, will begin his journey during the day, after receiving an invitation from the organizing committee.
