The Théâtre du Nouveau Monde (TNM) has announced the appointment of Geoffrey Gaquère as co-general and artistic director. He will take up his duties as of September 3, while Lorraine Pintal will step down as director after 32 years at the helm of this flagship institution of Quebec theatre.
Originally from Belgium, Mr. Gaquère was artistic director and co-general director of Théâtre Espace Libre from 2014 to 2022, and also director of the Conservatoire d’art dramatique de Montréal, since January 2023. “Geoffrey [Gaquère] will leave his position on August 30, said Marc Hervieux, general director of the Conservatoire de musique et d’art dramatique du Québec. I am sad for us… but really happy for him. This is very good news for the TNM!”
“Very involved in the theatre world, he is particularly sensitive to the challenges facing the new generation of performers and creators, aspiring to better equip them for their transition to professional practice,” we write in the press release sent by the TNM.

Geoffrey Gaquère will meet with media representatives on August 12, during a press event, with the current management of the TNM. Mme Pintal will ensure the transition with the newcomer until the end of the year.
