From infancy to old age, millions of people in France need help at home. A booming sector.
It can be a maintenance worker for small jobs and gardens, a home watch agent, a home administrative assistant or a computer and internet assistant, a home cook , a family employee, a home cleaner or a home teacher.
“The wish to have ‘a healthier lifestyle’ and to have more time for oneself, are realities shared by a growing proportion of French people, whatever their age, but even more so among the elderly.”
According to the Harris Interactive barometer, these two expectations come first, both among those over 50, and among 18-24 year-olds (Le cœur des Français. Trajectories and perspectives shared by the French in 2021. Harris Interactive study, September 2021).
Another example of this attention to health: to “prepare France for 2025”, the French first mention purchasing power (42%), then health (40%). Note that it is the 18-24 year olds who are the most concerned, with 45% against 41% for those over 65 and 36% for 25-35 year olds.
Serge Guérin, professor at Inseec GE sociologist, specialist in demographic transition, and Maxime Aiach, president of Domia Group and of the Federation of Services to Individuals (FESP) highlight in this essay published by Editions Fauves, the conditions of development of the sector, the alliance between services and digital, support for the seniorization of society, the creation of local jobs, the development of the sector, the problem of undeclared work and the arrival of low cost platforms.
“Personal services are a driving force behind social inclusion for relatively unskilled populations, they constitute a major lever for the protection and support of the quality of life of individuals, regardless of age and social origin” , underline Serge Guérin and Maxime Aiach.
