Ten minutes were enough on Tuesday evening for a storm to tear away many trees and roofs from houses in Bas-Rhin. On Thursday 11 July, the inhabitants of Batzensorf recount the violence of this exceptional stormy episode.
A curtain of rain and violent gusts of wind hit Batzensorf, north of Strasbourg, in the Bas-Rhin region, on the night of Tuesday 9 to Wednesday 10 July. A storm lasting about ten minutes left a lot of damage in its wake. About a hundred homes were affected and the Alsatian village now has ripped open roofs that need to be covered.
The 900 inhabitants of the small town were affected by this exceptional storm. The hail was hitting the windows, we didn’t know if they would hold. It was very intense,” says a man. All over the village, uprooted trees lie on the ground, uprooted by the force of the wind. Some have even taken high-voltage power lines with them. “Electric cables, telephone cables were torn out“, said Isabelle Dollinger, the mayor of Batzendorf. No injuries were reported.
