In California, the thermometer has crossed the 50 degree mark in Death Valley National Park. The United States is facing a heat wave that is breaking temperature records, and has already caused five deaths in the western part of the country.

With record temperatures, an unprecedented heat wave is raging in the United States. “Believe me, when you’re here and they tell you it’s 50 degrees, it really feels like 50 degrees.”assures an American in front of a thermometer in the middle of Death Valley National Park in California. On site, the 53 degrees were exceeded. “I don’t know how we can survive here”comments a woman in this rocky valley.

In California and Arizona, dozens of cities have set temperature records. Suffocating and deadly heat: at least five people have died in the American West. “We will fight to prevent further deaths by helping residents to overcome this excessive heat wave for several days.”assured Dr. Richard Bruno, a health officer in Oregon. “We have three air-conditioned centres open until 10pm, and extended the opening of libraries until 9pm.”he added. Authorities also have to fight against fire outbreaks. Several fires are currently ravaging the Santa Barbara region.
