At least 29 Palestinians were killed on Tuesday, July 10, in a school in the southern Gaza Strip, in the fourth strike against a school in the Palestinian territory in four days, attributed by Hamas to Israel. This toll was provided to AFP by a medical source at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis as well as by the Hamas press office, which denounced a “terrible massacre” with “mostly children and women.”

The Israeli army said it targeted near the school “a terrorist from the armed wing of Hamas” having notably taken part in the attack of October 7 and “to verify reports that civilians were affected.”

Accusing Israel of a strike “deliberate”Izzat al-Rishq, a member of Hamas’ political bureau, called for “take to the streets and squares for marches of anger denouncing the massacres and the war of extermination.” In a statement, she added “to verify reports that civilians were hit near Al-Awda school in southern Khan Younis, which is close to the location of the strike.”

“We were sitting at the entrance of the school (…) suddenly and without warning, rockets were fired at the group. They were not part of the resistance, they were not armed, they were all civilians”Mohammed Sukkar told AFP.

Before this strike, three schools sheltering displaced people had been hit since Saturday by Israeli strikes that had left at least 20 dead. On the night of Monday to Tuesday, the Israeli army announced that it had targeted “terrorists” using “the structures of a school in the Nousseirat area”.

On Sunday, Hamas announced that four people had been killed in another school housing displaced people, run by the Latin Patriarchate in Gaza City.. “Another day. Another month. Another school targeted,” wrote Philippe Lazzarini, head of UNRWA, on Sunday on X.
