Formula 1 | Aston Martin hires Ferrari technical director

(Silverstone) Formula 1 team Aston Martin struck another major blow on Tuesday by announcing the hiring of Ferrari technical director Enrico Cardile with immediate effect.

Cardile, who will officially start his new role with the British team in the 2025 season, was the Scuderia’s chassis and aerodynamics director. The 49-year-old Italian has spent more than two decades at the Italian F1 team.

“We are looking to strengthen the technical leadership team ahead of the significant regulatory changes that come into force in 2026. I am delighted that we are continuing to attract world-class talent to our team,” Aston Martin Team Chairman and Co-Owner Lawrence Stroll said in a statement. “Enrico shares my drive to succeed in F1 and will have all the resources at his disposal to achieve this ambition.”

“This is a key appointment for the team as we move towards the new 2026 regulations – an important next step in our journey,” summed up Aston Martin Team Principal Mike Krack.

For his part, Cardile said he was thrilled to get such an opportunity at Aston Martin.

“This is a personal and professional challenge and I look forward to working with the team to make it successful,” he said.

Cardile’s arrival is the latest coup at Aston Martin, following the hiring of former Mercedes powertrain boss Andy Cowell, who will replace Martin Whitmarsh as executive director from October.
