A tragic discovery. The decomposed body of a child was found off the Greek island of Naxos, two weeks after two accidents in this area involving ships carrying migrants, said the Greek coast guard on Saturday (January 8th).
The child, aged about three, wore a pacifier hanging from a string with pearls, a printed bib, brown and burgundy clothing and a blue striped sock on the right foot, the coast guard said in a statement. The child’s body was to be transported to the port of Piraeus for an autopsy.
Four more bodies were found on Thursday, three off Naxos and one off the nearby island of Paros. On December 24, the coast guard recovered the bodies of 16 migrants and rescued 63 others who were on board a ship wrecked in the Aegean Sea near the island of Paros, in the Cyclades.
