The prognosis for the two children thrown out of a window in Paris on Saturday by their father is no longer engaged, the Paris prosecutor’s office announced to AFP on Monday, July 8. The two children, born in 2019 and 2021, “remain hospitalized”.

On Saturday evening, around 8:30 p.m., the 49-year-old father threw the two children out of a fifth-floor window, causing them to fall onto a lawn at the foot of their building in the 14th arrondissement. The man then committed suicide by jumping into the void.

The prosecution has opened an investigation into attempted murder of minors under the age of 15, concerning the two children, and to investigate the causes of death, concerning their father, and violence by a spouse, the prosecution said. The investigations have been entrusted to the juvenile protection brigade of the Paris judicial police.

According to initial evidence gathered during the investigation, the incident occurred following an argument between the parents. The father was known for acts of violence dating back to 2007 and resulting in more than 8 days of total incapacity for work. The mother was taken to hospital, under police surveillance.
