Hiking is not uncommon in the Dades Gorges, in the heart of the Moroccan Grand Atlas, where tourists flock to admire the superb landscapes offered by this unique site, threatened by global warming.

The Moroccan Grand Atlas has the feel of the American Grand Canyon, with the added bonus of the green oases. In the Dades Gorges, one of the most photogenic roads in Morocco, bikers from all over the world come to enjoy its spectacular kilometers. The site says “monkey paws” is an essential stop along the gorges. The wind, the rain, but also the snow and the sun have drawn shapes on the mountain, where everyone sees what they want.

Lotfi Machraoui, who lives in Haute-Savoie, wanted to share with his family the history of the country where he was born: “I really wanted to introduce this to my children, they’ve been there for centuries.”he explains, facing the unique relief of the mountain. To see this canyon more closely, Houssaine Ben Aïssa, born in the surrounding area, guides tourists in the valley.

A German couple benefits from his advice. “As there is a change in climate, it is hard, it is terrible,” deplores Houssaine, who can only note the damage of global warming on the canyon. This region is also nicknamed the valley of 1,000 kasbahs.
