After the legislative elections, Gabriel Attal presented his resignation on Monday July 8, but Emmanuel Macron asked him to remain in office “for the moment in order to ensure the stability of the country.”

Following the results of the legislative elections, no camp seems able to govern alone: neither the New Popular Front, nor the presidential camp, nor the RN and its allies obtained an absolute majority in the National Assembly. Taking note of this result, outgoing Prime Minister Gabriel Attal presented his resignation to Emmanuel Macron on Monday, July 8, who asked him to remain in office. “For now”.

The objective: to ensure day-to-day business while France is due to host the Olympic Games from July 26. The two heads of the executive were joined at the Élysée by several ministers, including Gérald Darmanin (Interior), and Stéphane Séjourné (Foreign Affairs).

If the name of Gabriel Attal’s successor is a mystery, negotiations with the right or the left could drag on. Emmanuel Macron therefore wants to wait and see what happens on the left, to observe the balance of power between the socialists, the environmentalists, the communists and the rebels who came out on top in the second round.
