In the absence of veteran Jacqueline Simoneau, the Canadian artistic swimming team adapted to earn a third medal in as many events at the World Cup Super Final in Budapest, Hungary. This time, they finished third in the freestyle event with a total of 281.3626 points.
Food poisoning forced Jacqueline Simoneau to withdraw from the competition on Sunday. She was replaced by Sydney Carroll, who teamed up with Scarlett Finn, Audrey Lamothe, Jonnie Newman, Raphaëlle Plante, Kenzie Priddell, Claire Scheffel and Florence Tremblay.
Only the Americans (346.6104) and the Mexicans (335.6398) were able to do better than the Canadians on Sunday.
“This bronze medal is more than just a medal! Our performance shows how confident and adaptable the team is,” commented Sydney Carroll. “Everything we’ve been through shows that no matter what happens, we want to do the best we can and we’re going to give it our all.”
The Canadian swimmers won bronze in the technical program on Friday, before winning a silver medal for their acrobatic routine the following day.
“It was a good competition in preparation for the Olympics,” said Kenzie Priddell. “We tested new levels of difficulty. We’re getting better every competition, we have a good chemistry and we feel it in every program.”
The Canadian team now turns its attention to the Paris Olympics. The artistic swimming events will take place from August 5 to 10 at the Aquatic Centre. Remember that Jacqueline Simoneau and Audrey Lamothe, gold medallists on Saturday in the free duet, will also be competing in the duet events in the French capital.
