Bad luck may be following Kevin Mayer. Qualified at the last minute for the Paris Olympic Games after months of physical struggle, the Frenchman appears to have injured himself during the 110m hurdles of the triathlon counting for the Paris stage of the Diamond League. Knocked down in the middle of the race, Mayer fell after missing his take-off before the 8e hedge, unable to put in the necessary power.

“Kevin felt discomfort during the 110 meters hurdles and even more than discomfort because he felt that it broke in his left hamstringexplained his brother Thomas Mayer in the evening. It surprises us because he really had no discomfort in the last training sessions and especially in the warm-up. We don’t know yet what he has, he’s having an MRI tomorrow (Monday) at 9:00, a few additional tests and we’ll know a little more about the extent of the injury.”

Having remained on the ground for two minutes, the decathlon world record holder was finally able to leave the tartan by his own means, holding his left thigh. Kevin Mayer was immediately taken care of by the medical service, his entourage told AFP, finally leaving the Charléty stadium around 4:30 p.m. limping. Although the nature of the injury is not yet known, there is great concern, four weeks before the decathlon of the Paris Olympics, on August 2 and 3.

The stands of the Charléty stadium fell silent at the cry of pain, tinged with sorrow, of the double Olympic vice-champion of the decathlon. If he finally refused the stretcher or the wheelchair ready to help him leave the track, it is not enough to reassure as the Olympic deadline approaches very quickly. Kevin Mayer had already seen his first part of the season disrupted by an injury, this time to the right thigh. He had finally snatched his qualification for the Paris Games during his last chance of minima, at the European Championships in Rome on June 11.

Kevin Mayer is one of the 92 French athletes selected for the Games this Sunday by the French Olympic Sports Committee.
