Russia claims to have captured the village of Chigari in eastern Ukraine, where Moscow continues to make slow advances.

The Russian army is still gaining ground in eastern Ukrainian territory. Units of the Russian army have “liberated the locality of Chigari in the Donetsk People’s Republic,” said the Russian Defense Ministry on Sunday, July 7, the day after the announcement of the capture of another village, Sokil, about 30 km northwest of the city of Donetsk.
Ukraine, which is struggling to replenish its ranks and obtain more weapons and ammunition from Western allies, believes that the worst fighting on the front is currently taking place in the Donetsk region. On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated his prerequisite for any country agreement: Ukrainian withdrawal from the Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions, which Russia has been claiming to annex since September 2022.
