John Deere Classic | Davis Thompson Takes 1st Place After 3 Rounds

(Silvis) American Davis Thompson birdied half of his holes Saturday, tying a personal best with a 9-under 62 to take the lead after the third round of the John Deere Classic.

Thompson made birdie even after his only bad tee shot, putting between the trees on the par-5 17th.e. He is at 192 (minus-21). This is the first time he has led a tournament after 54 holes, he who is playing his second season in the PGA.

But that lead is far from insurmountable this week.

His only victory came on the Korn Ferry circuit two years ago.

American Eric Cole (64) and Englishman Aaron Rai (66) are second, at 194 (minus-19).

Ben Silverman (67) is the highest ranked Canadian. He is in 27e place by virtue of a cumulative 201 (minus-12). He has a two-shot lead over his compatriot Adam Svensson (72), who has slipped 26 positions. Roger Sloan (70) is 53eat 206 (minus-7).
