These 6th and 7th July are the first big weekend of departures on holiday. The SNCF is expecting more than a million passengers on the trains by Sunday evening, nearly half of whom will pass through Parisian stations. As the school year has just ended, the train platforms are filling up, with many children ready to spend the summer at camp or with their grandparents.

Montparnasse train station in Paris, Corinne brings her grandchildren in front of the train, heading for the summer camp. Louis has already planned everything for his trip to Yvelines. “We’re going to play games and have a snack.”he says, in a hurry. Mila is also going on vacation with her little sister to the camp. “School is good, but taking a break to go to camp is good too.”she smiled.

Raphaël, 13, is going to spend the next two weeks with his grandparents in Loiret. And he plans to make the most of it, because next year he might be a little too old for that. “I’m starting to grow up, I’m taking advantage because they’re going to get old”he confides with emotion. His grandmother smiles: “I understand that when they reach a certain age they no longer want to be with their grandparents.”. But little Louise, 4 years old, is not there yet and already knows what she is going to do with her vacation: “I’m going to go fishing.”

On the platform, we say goodbye, with a big smile. The parents stay on the platform, like Christine who sees her daughter leave with her grandmother:“I’m really going to be on vacation, this time!”
