The director of Cloclo and the Netflix series Marseille stars in his new feature film Roschdy Zem in the role of a former soldier traumatized by his war in Afghanistan. This classic thriller, a bit caricatured, but supported by the performance of Roschdy Zem, is released in theaters on July 4, the last day of the Fête du Cinéma.
Elyas (Roschdy Zem) lives alone with his demons. His heavy past in the army has left traces, stigmata on the body, scars in the heart and in the head. The former soldier, paranoid, lives alone in a home, with an injunction of care.
Elyas is contacted by an old friend to become Amina’s bodyguard (Laëtitia Eïdo)a wealthy Middle Eastern princess, and her 13-year-old daughter, Nour (Jeanne Michel)who live cloistered in a castle. After welcoming the former soldier warmly, the teenager softens and even manages to break the shell that Elyas has built since he lost his gypsy brother in combat.
But upon his arrival, Elyas has the feeling that the staff of the castle, a veritable gilded cage that the young woman and her daughter are not allowed to leave, are plotting a bad trick. His intuition did not deceive him, a few days later, a commando attacks the young woman and her daughter. Elyas then goes into warrior mode, ready to do anything to save Amina, and Nour, whom her father wants to marry by force…
A broken but invincible hero, ready to fight at all costs to destroy a band of bad guys, a victim to save, occult agents sent by the government, twists and turns and stunts, blood and gunshots, stressful music… This thriller borrows all the codes of the genre, without however carrying us away, as the characters are so stereotypical.
Inspired by a true story – that of a mother who managed to smuggle her daughter to England to avoid a forced marriage – the script struggles to convince us, exaggerated to the point of implausibility. Nevertheless, we become attached to the character of Elyas, thanks to the performance of Roschdy Zem, who nevertheless stands out by sensitively embodying the role of an invincible but broken superhero.
