Quebec reaches agreement with emergency medical dispatchers from several regions

(Montreal) Quebec has reached another agreement in principle regarding the renewal of collective agreements, this time with emergency medical dispatchers in several regions of the province.

The agreement concerns some 110 emergency medical dispatchers who work in the Health Communication Centres of Outaouais, Laurentides-Lanaudière, Montérégie and Mauricie–Centre-du-Québec.

These emergency medical dispatchers are members of unions of the Fédération des employées du préhospitalier du Québec – a group independent of the central unions.

The Treasury Board and the union federation confirmed the agreement in principle on Friday. It concerns a collective agreement that would last three years, from 2022 to 2025. The parties did not reveal its content, reserving the scoop for the workers, as is usually the case in such circumstances.

“We believe that this agreement in principle meets the objectives set,” the federation wrote in a communication to its members.

“This takes into account the improvement of working conditions and issues common to the parties, particularly with regard to the attraction and retention of staff as well as the organization of work,” commented the office of the President of the Treasury Board, Sonia LeBel.

Due to this agreement in principle, pressure tactics have been suspended since noon Friday. Union members were to maintain only “means of visibility” until the signing of the collective agreement, according to the message sent to members.

The agreement in principle will be submitted to members during meetings to be held by the end of August, the federation said.
