Absenteeism due to contamination with the Omicron variant disrupts several sectors of the economy. While companies are adapting as they can, SNCF has announced that it will adapt its traffic from Monday, January 10.

In a warehouse in Rungis (Val-de-Marne), hundreds of boxes containing food products are waiting, before being delivered to supermarkets or restaurants. Between workers positive for Covid-19 and contact cases, more than 10% of the company’s staff are absent. “It is always a pressure. People come back, after others are contaminated, and we have to change all our schedules on a daily basis.“, explains Yacine Kara, president of Ecolotrans. He calls on temporary workers, which cost him 25% more.

On the public transport side, the SNCF will reduce its traffic from Monday January 10: 20% less Intercity, and 10% reduced TGV. The company says it has faced a 30% drop in bookings since the start of the year, in particular because of increased teleworking. Air France has set up a reserve of 200 people per day, available to replace those absent. For the time being, she assures that she has not yet needed to reorganize her flight schedules.
