The surge hoped for by Emmanuel Macron’s party did not happen in the first round of the legislative elections. Many government figures are in difficulty.
Macronie figures defeated. Among the 24 ministers running in their constituency, none were elected in the first round of the legislative elections on Sunday, June 30. In Tourcoing (North), the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, has only a very narrow lead over the National Rally, with 36% of the vote against 34%. Candidate for the 10th constituency of the North, he calls for “to block the National Rally”.
In Calvados, the result is even harsher for Élisabeth Borne, the former Prime Minister, who is eight points behind the RN. But she could benefit from the withdrawal of the candidate of the New Popular Front. She calls on left-wing voters to rally behind her. Some members of the presidential majority even choose to withdraw, like Sabrina Agresti-Roubache who came in 3rd place in the poll, far behind the RN, in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône). Marc Fesneau and Agnès Pannier-Runacher were also largely beaten. For these candidates, the election now rests in the hands of left-wing voters.
