Almost 500 people mobilized in Dordogne to present Carmen next April at the Palio de Boulazac

Carmen’s pitch? It resonates with current events. Spoiler: It doesn’t end well for her.

For Chloé Meyzie, project manager, conductor within Labopera Périgord-Dordogne, this project is an opportunity to address an audience that does not go to the Opera.

? Listen to the interview with Chloé Meyzie: A few months before the two performances of Carmen (made in Périgord), how is the team feeling? Will there be Perigord specificities?

Indeed, the average person is not used to going there. We often think it’s not for young people, whether it is addressed to rich people, or that we are going to be bored there because we do not understand anything. This version, presented in April at the Palio de Boulazac, will change your mind.

First by the huge population that works on the two representations. The orchestra will be composed half of professionals and half of amateurs with young musicians from the Périgueux conservatory.

Among the choirs, we find students from the agricultural school of Coulounieix-Chamiers. Ten schools and universities in Dordogne also participate: for prepare costumes, make-up, sets and communication. In addition, chauvinist that we are: Carmen is interpreted by a Périgourdine. Astrid Dupuis.

“It’s a coincidence, assures Chloé Meyzie. I had received an email from a young woman who told me to be from Périgueux, and I am applying for the role of Mercedes. I didn’t pay much attention to it. Favoritism was out of the question. She introduced herself. We thought she was in the role of Mercedes but we wondered about the role of Carmen that we finally attributed to her “.
