Destination Iceland for an adventure as close as possible to a colossus of ice and ash: the Vatnajökull, the largest ice cap in Iceland and the second largest glacier in Europe. Global warming and volcanic activity are believed to be the two main causes of its withdrawal.

The magazine 1:15 p.m. on Saturday (Twitter, #1:15 p.m.) went to meet three passionate French people: Julie, Aël and Guillaume, respectively ranger, photographer and mountain guide, who built their new life near this cold monster of 8,300 square kilometers, equivalent to 95% of the surface of Corsica.

A world of ice which unfortunately loses its mass and recedes by more than 100 meters per year on average since the 1990s … In 2006, the Icelandic Parliament decided to create the Vatnajökull National Park covering 15% of Icelandic territory, which in fact the largest national park in Europe.
