Yaïr Netanyahu, the son of the Israeli Prime Minister, is back on social media. He seems to be on a mission to defend his father and point out the responsibility of the military in the security fiasco of October 7, with a never-ending war ever since. Yaïr Netanyhaou, sulphurous character in Israel and unknown in France, is first and foremost a daddy’s boy. He is the eldest of the two boys that Benjamin Netanyhu had with Sara, his third wife.
Yaïr Netanyahu is 32 years old and we don’t really know what he does for a living. For almost a year and a half he has been in Miami, in the south of the United States, in the house of a rich family friend. He is also a political influencer, very active on social networks, with nearly 200,000 subscribers on Twitter and more than 120,000 on Instagram.
He also produced a podcast for a while, where he notably invited the son of another illiberal leader, Eduardo Bolsonaro, the heir to the former Brazilian president. “Today I am with my good friend Eduardo Bolsonaro. Today we are going to talk about the power of the radical left against the free right that we love. Thank you for being with me today.”we can hear.
The other Netanyahu is therefore an apparatchik of the Israeli political system that his father has dominated for more than 15 years and that he never ceases to spit on. An anti-system produced by the system: he is a supremacist, in favor of colonization and close to the most violent extreme right. And so he runs, on social networks, what his father’s opponents here call “the poison machine.”
For several days, Yaïr Netanyahu has taken a dislike to his own country’s army. And he is not afraid. He is a refugee abroad, far from the fighting, but he is attacking the army’s top brass, whom he believes are responsible for the security fiasco of October 7 and the impasse in the war. In a recent Instagram post, he called Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi and the head of domestic intelligence Ronen Bar “failures“.
The charge is violent and not so innocent. Benyamin Netanyahu wants to put the blame on the army and avoid at all costs the opening of an independent commission of inquiry, so he lets go. But the military defends itself through the voice of its spokesperson, who affirmed a few days ago that wanting the idea of destroying Hamas amounted to throwing sand in the eyes of the Israelis.
In this conflict, Yair Netanyahu is on a command mission. His objective: charge the army and exonerate his father. And in a country more right-wing than ever, his voice carries.
