A survey of 60 million consumers on chipolatas sold in supermarkets reveals significant differences in quality.

Should we doubt the quality of our sausages? An association which analyzed around thirty merguez and chipolatas from supermarkets warns of the presence of additives and the percentage of meat. However, consumers are used to looking closely at labels in the supermarket. The presence of additives, used to stabilize products, is one of the main complaints addressed to certain sausage producers. Found in five references of merguez out of the twelve tested, the additives are also present in two packets of chipolatas out of the eleven analyzed by the magazine 60 Millions de consommateurs.

“These additives can mainly be preservatives and colourings. So in themselves, it is not necessarily very dangerous for health, but we must obviously avoid accumulating this ingestion of additives.”, underlines a specialist. Products labeled Red Label or organic appear less affected. According to one artisan, these additives are not necessarily necessary, but buying artisanal sausages costs more.
