One month before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, the Minister of the Interior is taking stock. “We count 2,720 exclusions” of people linked to the Paris Games, reported Gérald Darmanin, Wednesday June 26, in an interview with Parisian. At this stage, “552,642 security investigations were carried out”he counts, i.e. a rate of 0.5% of failures before the tests.

“There are a certain number of people who could be potentially dangerous, in particular spies or individuals likely to carry out attacks”, explains the minister. Among the excluded profiles were “82 S files and 304 people known to the intelligence services”of which “54 ultra-right, 104 ultra-left, 146 linked to radical Islam”. A risk of foreign interference justified 579 exclusion decisions.

In March, Gérald Darmanin recalled that “screenings” would be carried out “out of nearly a million individuals”, including some of the volunteers recruited by the organizers, as well as security agents, accredited journalists, and even athletes selected for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. All participants in the opening ceremony, including spectators, must also have their background checked.
