Friday June 21, the Ministry of the Interior announced that around one million proxies have already been registered. Enough to predict a strong participation in the elections.
Long lines in front of police stations, almost everywhere in France: the scenes have become frequent since the announcement of the early legislative elections on June 9. In ten days, more than a million proxy requests were registered, or six times more than in the 2022 legislative elections. With the vote falling at the beginning of summer, it is impossible for many French people to be present on voting days. “Caught off guard, and therefore for both dates, request for proxy”confides a woman.
The explosion in proxy requests suggests an increase in participation on D-day. It could reach 63%, according to an Ifop survey published on Sunday. Participation will be closely scrutinized in each constituency in the first round, because it could outline the contours of the second, with possible cases of triangular.
