No regrets for Didier Deschamps. Held in check by the Netherlands (0-0) despite a clear domination, the Blues sinned against the Dutch goal, Friday June 21, in Leipzig. After two matches in this Euro 2024, they have still not scored a single goal – a first – since it was against an Austrian counter-camp that they won the first meeting. So, obviously, Didier Deschamps was questioned about his choice to do without Kylian Mbappé, who was hit in the nose during the first match.

“No, I don’t have to bluff. It’s getting better, every day that passes is a day gained”, first reassured the French coach at a press conference. Before adding: “If it had been a decisive match, I might have thought differently. It was important to have the sensation of Kylian. There is a risk, every day that passes, we get closer to consolidation. C “It was wiser for him to stay on the bench.”

A few minutes earlier, at the microphone of M6, Didier Deschamps had returned to the “significant shock” received by Kylian Mbappé against Austria: “Today the risks were much too high, a minimum of time is needed for a first consolidation, beyond the shock, the hematoma, the vision… We have to go step by step”. The next one, for the Blues, is Tuesday against Poland with a mission: to achieve a better result than the Netherlands against Austria to finish first in their group.
