A favorite’s suit too big for England? After two matches in this Euro 2024, the English are currently far from the level at which they were announced at the start of the competition. An impression confirmed by a new lackluster performance, Thursday June 20, against Denmark. Harry Kane had ideally launched the afternoon of Three Lions, but the Danes logically ended up equalizing (1-1).
After its sluggish victory against Serbia in the first match, England once again struggled in the game, and displayed a face that was anything but resplendent on the Frankfurt pitch. By securing the draw, the English, however, limited the damage, and took a step towards the round of 16, with now four points on the clock at the top of group C, against two points for Denmark and Slovenia, and one point for Serbia (next opponent of the English).
Involuntarily, Denmark had nevertheless helped England, with a defensive error immediately punished by Harry Kane, following a billiard shot in the area after a cross from Kyle Walker (1-0, 18th). An opening score which rewarded a good start to the English match, but the bellows quickly fell. Which allowed the Danes to equalize with a long shot from Morten Hjulmand (1-1, 36th).
Without any ideas on the ball, and unable to set the slightest rhythm in this match, England relied on the rare clearings signed by Phil Foden, who notably hit the post (56th). Ghostly, Jude Bellingham and Bukayo Saka completely missed their meeting, while the Danes showed desire, but lacked precision, like Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg, on two long shots (73rd, 85th ).
Already held in check when they entered the competition by Slovenia (1-1), Denmark continues to advance slowly in this group C, with two points in as many matches, before playing its qualification against Serbia, Tuesday. First in the group with four points, England will have to confirm their first place against the surprising Slovenes, who came very close to victory against Serbia (1-1), earlier in the afternoon.
