Medical deserts: in the Creuse, residents travel miles to seek treatment
Creuse faces a glaring lack of doctors. As the legislative elections approach, the subject is one of the priorities of the residents of the department.
In the Creuse, all roads lead to a doctor provided you drive for miles. The disease is widespread in rural areas, and contaminates the urban fabric. In this department, the RN came first among Europeans. This is the campaign of medical deserts. In a village, a brand new medical center was built. But it is desperately empty. The residents are disillusioned.
For 117,000 inhabitants, there are 109 doctors left in the department. A third are close to retirement age. Many practitioners retire without being replaced. More and more patients are refusing to seek treatment, with a delay in diagnosis and treatment. Doctors are also suffering: the number of patients is increasing and the pace is difficult to keep up.
