Finance Minister Eric Girard will present an economic update with a focus on the labor shortage on November 25.
The big money maker of Quebec also pledged to present targeted measures to fight against the rise in the cost of living.
In the press scrum at the National Assembly on Wednesday, Mr. Girard said he saw a “significant change” this year in terms of inflation.
“Usually, we have inflation around 2% per year. This year, it could reach more than 4% on average. This is a significant change.
“There are several explanations for this. There are temporary and permanent elements, but what is certain is that we must help Quebeckers, ”he added.
Certain relief measures will therefore be intended for those “who do not benefit from an increase in income to cope with increases in the cost of living,” he said.
In addition, last month, Prime Minister François Legault had declared in front of the members of the Quebec Federation of municipalities (FQM) that the requalification of the workforce would be a priority.
“People who were in a sector where there is a little less future, and who want to go to a sector where there is more future, well we are going. […] financially support people to re-qualify, ”he said.

In his opening speech on October 19, Mr. Legault promised to add skilled workers in the construction, information technology and engineering sectors, for example.
On Wednesday, Mr. Girard reiterated his objective of returning to a balanced budget, after contribution to the Generations Fund, in 2027-2028.
