The first season of House of the dragon told the beginnings of the fall of the house of Targaryens and the ancestors of the blonde Daenerys, the woman of dragons. We dived 172 years ago Game Of Thrones by discovering, first, a kingdom at peace and children playing. But at the end of the first season, the monarch disappeared and the children went to war.
The second season features the same characters and their descendants, who increasingly inflame the conflicts. This story of a crowned son, Aegon, first surprised by the way, in place of his older sister is inspired by true British medieval history. As explained by Ryan Condal, who created and wrote this series (with the author of Game Of Thrones George RR Martin): “The particular period we are covering is heavily based on the period of English Anarchy. I was fascinated by this moment in history. Even though the world Georges writes is brutal, when you read medieval history underlying it we realize that people were not nice to each other.”
Like George RR Martin’s novel, the dialogues are Shakespearean. Ryan Condal explains: “I would say it’s pseudo Shakespeare in the sense that the language is elevated but accessible. It’s the balance you have to find so that it doesn’t feel like a play.”
The series is full of cousins and uncles who make war or love – why not with each other -, sex, murders each more bloody and savage than the last and of course impressive dragon battles in the air , very realistic. “If we can be realistic with giant flying dragonscomments Ryan Condal. In any case, we wanted to be as faithful as possible to the worlds we created. We wanted something that no one had ever seen before. We built this idea of fighting dragons from the first season. For me this is a metaphor for nuclear war. If we launch big flying nuclear weapons into the sky, what will happen to the people on the ground?”
House of the dragon. The second season starts Monday June 17 on the brand new Max platform.
