Statistics Canada reports that manufacturing sector sales rose 1.1% to $70.8 billion in April from the previous month, thanks to higher sales of transportation equipment, primary metals and chemicals. .
This increase follows a decrease of 1.8% in March.
Statistics Canada reports that sales of transportation equipment rose 4.1% in April, with sales of motor vehicles up 5.6% and sales of motor vehicle parts up 7.7%.
Meanwhile, sales in the primary metals subsector increased 4.7%, aided by higher sales in the non-ferrous metals production and processing group (at excluding aluminum), which increased by 15.7%.
Sales of chemical products increased 4.0%, while those of the aerospace products and parts manufacturing group decreased 6.8%.
In constant dollars, Statistics Canada indicates that manufacturers’ sales increased by 0.4% in April, indicating a higher volume of goods sold.
Manufacturing sector sales increased in seven provinces in April, including Quebec (+1.0%), Ontario (+0.9%), Prince Edward Island (+13. 7%), Nova Scotia (+6.2%) and Alberta (+2.5%).
Newfoundland and Labrador (-28%) and New Brunswick (-6.9%) posted the largest declines.
