“The survival of artists would literally be at stake” with the arrival of the National Rally in power, fears Mélanie Perrier, member of Syndeac, the union of artistic and cultural companies. Fifteen performing arts unions are calling to mobilize against the far right on Saturday, just over two weeks before the early legislative elections.

“The first concern is whether or not the public service of culture will be maintained. Will artists be able to continue to work ? Will places be able to continue to be free to broadcast what creations they have to broadcast? Will they still be present throughout the territory? ??”, asks Mélanie Perrier Friday June 14 on franceinfo. “We have a real clash of conceptions of societies and culture in a democracy” with the RN, she believes.

“Basically, for the RN, culture is too expensive.”

It is based in particular on “the assessments of municipalities and countries under the aegis of the extreme right”. “We clearly see their conception and their action towards culture. In Italy, in six months, they dislodge all the directors of public places to create patronage and with an idea of profitability, that means that it [la culture] is no longer accessible to everyone.”

Moreover, “Marion Maréchal said it in a very uninhibited manner, for her, the intermittent entertainment regime is too expensive and it will literally have to be eliminated.”

Two years ago, Marine Le Pen assured France Bleu Périgord that, if she was elected president, she would neither touch the status of intermittent workers nor festival subsidies. “I love culture as much as you do, I will do everything to develop it.”
