An agreement pushed by the United States, providing for a mega-loan worth $50 billion (46 billion euros), was signed by G7 leaders.

The message is clear: Westerners have no intention of abandoning Ukraine. Thursday June 13, an agreement providing for a loan of 50 billion dollars (46 million euros) was signed by the leaders of the G7 in Savelletri (Italy), in order to help kyiv defend itself. The amount is guaranteed by future interest generated by frozen Russian assets. This agreement is, according to Joe Biden, the American president, a sign that they are not backing down from Vladimir Putin.

“Our goal is to strengthen Ukraine’s credible defense and deterrence capabilities in the long term. A lasting peace for Ukraine must rely on Ukraine’s ability to defend itself today and deter future aggression”, specified the head of state. Faced with the prospect of Donald Trump’s return to the White House, and the uncertainty around the consequences of his election for Ukraine, the G7 countries wanted to secure the financing of this aid. An initiative welcomed by Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president.
