The man accused of stabbing the mother of his children to death after stalking and threatening her for several months was found guilty of first-degree murder Thursday afternoon.
The jury found Hosea Amorus Puhya guilty of killing his ex-wife, after a day of deliberation.
The 51-year-old man stabbed the mother of his children several times in front of her home as she got out of her vehicle, a scene of rare violence which had been filmed and presented as evidence. A friend and neighbor of the 28-year-old victim witnessed this murder which occurred in September 2022.
The murderer had stalked and threatened to kill his victim several times before taking action, explained Crown prosecutor Me Philippe Vallières-Roland during his pleadings last Tuesday.
“I’m going to kill you”, “You’re going to die”, “Your grave is dug”: he had in fact threatened to attack her around twenty times a few days before the day of the murder.
The trial was presided over by Judge Catherine Perreault. Me Jade Coderre and Me Philippe Vallières-Roland represented the public prosecutor, while Me Antonio Cabral and Me Vanessa Sadler defended the accused.
