Relaunching training through apprenticeship is France’s wish. For this, it goes through the program Erasmus. the exchange system thus allows students to train abroad. Example with two apprentice cooks, in Sweden.
One wants to be a pastry chef, the other a cook. In the city of Gothenburg (Sweden), it is 1,500 km from France that two apprentices, originally from Clermont-Ferrand (Puy de Dome), came to do their end-of-study internship. As for Nicolas, an apprentice pastry chef, the chef is French and teaches him local gastronomy. “It is to think outside the box. Do something with saffron, I never would have thought of it“, rejoices Nicolas, in the middle of making saffron bubbles, a pastry specialty from Sweden. To help him in his daily life, he receives a grant adapted to his standard of living. Swedish : 1,500 euros per month, paid by the program Erasmus and Pôle Emploi.
On the other side of town, Louis also works in the kitchen. After a few months in the country, he claims to have progressed in English. “I already understand more what he says to me and I answer with small sentences“, he laughs. The owner of the place is another French. It regularly employs young people from all over Europe. But he regrets that only 10% of Erasmus are apprentices. For him, the program is not highlighted enough. Louis and Nicolas, they already have just a desire : to explore another country.
