French hostage Louis Arnaud, who had been held in Iran for two years, was repatriated on the morning of Thursday June 13 to French soil. He was accused by Tehran of having participated in demonstrations against power.
After 20 months of detention, French hostage Louis Arnaud took his first steps on French soil at Le Bourget airport (Seine-Saint-Denis), on the morning of Thursday June 13. “He is quite emaciated, quite shocked, extremely moved, dazed to find himself outside these walls”, confided his mother, Sylvie. In Montceau-les-Mines (Saône-et-Loire), where the Arnaud family lives, it’s a surprise, and the residents are rejoicing.
In September 2022, the 30-year-old was on a world tour when he was arrested in Iran. The authorities accused him of having participated in a demonstration in support of Mahsa Amini, an Iranian woman who died in prison after refusing to wear her veil. His lawyer, Maître Martin Pradel, confirms that his detention was painful: “in a cell all alone, without looking towards the day, permanently lit.” The release of Louis Arnaud took place thanks to the mediation of the Sultanate of Oman. Three French hostages are still being held in Iran.
