Launched a year ago in the United States, the streaming platform, Max, took its first steps on Tuesday June 11 in France. Clément Schwebig, president of Warner Bros Discovery Western Europe & Africa, does not hide his enthusiasm about its arrival in France: “We are ready. We have launched in 65 other countries around the world, we have nearly 100 million subscribers. And yesterday, we launched in France.”

An arrival in the already busy world of streaming and which might not find its place? “I do not think so” he reacts, “We are entering a clearly mature market where consumers know what they want.” Faced with this requirement, Clément Schwebig promises to try to respond by relying on the exceptional heritage of the Warner Bros studio with films “incredible, from Casablanca to Mad Max, including all the Stanley Kubricks, Clint Eastwood, the Matrix and others.”

There are 12,500 titles from which viewers can choose, plus content from HBO (Home Box Office), which belongs to the group. In his repertoire: The Sopranos, Game Of Thrones and other iconic series like Friends which arrives on July 1 or original French series, in particular the adaptation of the book by Rabbi Delphine Horvilleur, Living with our dead.

It is not yet another platform, according to Clément Schwebig who insists on the importance of the quality of the content offered. Drawing on HBO’s experience in the field, he confirms that “Strategy is not quantity, it’s quality.” A know-how that Max will align with, particularly in terms of the pace of distribution.

No “binge-watching” for new things, but meetings, the old-fashioned way, like on television. A bias, according to him, considered and deliberate, “we have always favored this ‘meeting’ with the viewer, and these meetings. We want it to be content where at the coffee machine, the next day, we talk about it and that’s why we have these events and that’s also why we’re going to have sport.”

Sports fans will also find something to satisfy them in Max since they will be able to benefit all year round from the competitions broadcast on Eurosport, which belongs to the same company, such as the Australian Open, the US Open, the Giro, the Vuelta, the 24 hours of Le Mans and then, as a welcome gift for those who subscribe now, the Olympic Games in full. “We will have 3,800 hours of tests which will be offered to subscribers and up to 62 concurrent tests” with the added bonus, he adds, “lots of features, alerts and ways to navigate back to content”.
