Judge François Huot, in rendering his sentence, underlined the “unqualified cowardice” of the 32-year-old man, who had pleaded guilty on December 13 to a charge of forcible confinement. The father thus avoided going to trial on three other counts, including that of criminal negligence causing the death of his own daughter.

“How could you have tied your child up like this?” You behaved towards this little girl as one would not even do towards an animal ”, denounced the judge, before sending the accused behind bars.

Recall that the stepmother, convicted in December of the premeditated murder of the child and kidnapping, is serving a life sentence and will be eligible for parole in 13 years.

In the agreed statement of facts presented to the judge on Friday at the Trois-Rivières courthouse, the father admitted to having made the decision to sequester his child with duct tape to prevent her from still trying to escape from the city. House.

The man had restrained the child on the morning of April 29, 2019, before going to work, under the pretext that the girl had tried several times to flee the residence. The child’s mother-in-law had put duct tape on the girl in the absence of the father.

Back home in the morning, the father found the unconscious girl on the kitchen floor before calling emergency services. The girl died the next day at the hospital center.
