After the death of a 19-year-old adult in Cherbourg (Manche) on Sunday June 9, the Cherbourg prosecutor told franceinfo on Tuesday June 11 that he was withdrawing from the investigation in favor of the Coutances investigation center.

The 19-year-old man was trying to flee a police check for speeding this Sunday evening around 11:40 p.m. A crew of three police officers “attempted to control a vehicle traveling at excessive speed”had previously indicated the Cherbourg public prosecutor’s office in a press release. “Regarding the incidents of last night, trash cans were set on fire, bus shelters were damaged and mortars were thrown at the police by hooded individuals. At this stage, there was no ‘question in this regard’adds the Cherbourg prosecutor.

Local police officers and CRS 8 agents were attacked by around fifteen people during the night from Monday to Tuesday between 1 a.m. and more than 3 a.m. They came under projectile fire and mortar fire. A barricade was dismantled by the CRS on avenue de Normandie. There were no injuries according to this source, but there was damage. Three trash cans, four scooters and pallets were set on fire as well as two bus shelters.
