For those over 80, the situation is more worrying. In Vendée, for example, there are 218 cases of Covid-19 among 80/89 year olds over seven days, out of 100,000 inhabitants. According to specialists, the oldest are often infected in family or in contact with elderly professionals, even if they are vaccinated. Because over time, protection diminishes. “When we get older, our immune system is less efficient. When we have been vaccinated long enough ago, inevitably, that decreases the protection“, confirms Professor Olivier Guérin, geriatrician and member of the scientific council. The third dose of the vaccine is therefore the priority to strengthen the antibodies.
